Goldsmiths Bridal Trends of 2018

Bridal trends 2018The dress accessory

This year is all about the bridal cape. Wedding cover ups are not only a growing trend but a must-have accessory for 2018, especially for the modern bride. Think extravagant, full length designs to contemporary cropped or embellished styles to make a lasting impact.

Bohemian bridal is also a key look for this year – but it’s not all flower crowns and fringe as with previous seasons. Opt for a subtle nod to the trend with floaty fabrics, feminine silhouettes and a muted colour palette, best suited to the blushing vintage bride-to-be.

The bridesmaid collection

When it comes to choosing bridesmaid dresses, finding a ‘one style fits all’ concept can be both tricky and a little dated. Whether it’s different necklines, various lengths or an array of complementing colours, this current styling concept gives the modern bride freedom to select styles to suit her bridesmaids’ body shapes still in-keeping with the overall theme.

Go for gold

Last year Prince Harry caught the attention of the nation when he proposed to Meghan Markle with a sparkling yellow gold engagement ring. As images of the ring started to emerge, the classic metal type began to shine once again. With no signs of fading into the background, yellow gold is perfect for the timeless bride-to-be as it will never go out of style.

Not-so shrinking violets

As forecast by Pantone, 2018’s colour of the year is Ultra Violet, a vivid and theatrical purple. An easy yet effective way to introduce the shade of the moment is through the use of jewellery and accessories. Coloured gemstones often emulate antique styles, perfect for the vintage bride who harks to the past for inspiration. Brighten up the bridesmaid party with a 9ct White Gold 8x8mm Amethyst and 0.16ct White Topaz Ring or add a pop of colour to the dress with a pair of 9ct White Gold Tanzanite and Diamond Halo Stud Earrings.

Bridal hair and beauty

When it comes to hair, plaits and flower embellishments are set to be big again this spring/summer – adaptable for both the timeless bride choosing something a little more classic with a half up half down do in loose curls and the vintage bride incorporating a side sweep and Hollywood waves. Meanwhile the trend-led modern bride might go for the new chic chignon style of a casual low loose bun.

A must-have make-up trend for 2018 is the English Rose – try rosy blushed cheeks, nude lips and minimal eyeshadow to enhance your healthy complexion. The dreamy fairytale finish is ideal for the timeless, romantic bride.

Meghan Markle has also made her mark in the make-up world, inspiring fashion savvy brides-to-be with a flawless appearance. Smoky eyes, long feathered lashes and a glowing base will complement a dramatic modern wedding gown perfectly.
